Creatures Teach Us seeks to educate, entertain and inspire.
The Family Ministries Department of the Singapore Conference of Seventh-day Adventists has partnered with Hope Channel Singapore to develop a new children’s television series called Creatures teach us.
The fun series is for the whole family, the producers said. “Each episode takes parents and children on an adventure with six different animals found in Singapore. [Viewers] can learn character traits such as loyalty, empathy and teamwork, contextualized perspectives, prosocial choices and other positive values in their process of building Christian character, ”they said.
Objective and target group
The key objective of Creatures teach us is to empower children up to 7 years old and make disciples of them to serve God. It also seeks to inspire parents and other viewers to notice God’s work and character that is continually being revealed. Children learn to notice and look for character traits in creatures, which leads to a renewed sense of appreciation and adoration for the Creator, the producers said.
There is a great talent pool among church members, including children, the producers said. “Creatures teach us gives children opportunities to shine for Jesus as their various talents are maximized to their full potential, ”they said.
The nature of Creatures teach us
The program is contextualized for the Singapore landscape, the producers said. It also responds to the need of parents looking for useful but entertaining content that could occupy their young children’s free time and powerfully reinforces the moral they value through media platforms. “Creatures teach us provides children with a localized perspective through which they can gain an understanding of positive values, contextualize perspectives, and make pro-social choices. Thanks to the series, the children of Singapore are empowered and disciplined, ”the producers said.
Eighteen children participated in the series. Three groups of children aged 4 to 11 appeared in each of the six episodes. “We had to adapt the original format to meet the requirements for safe management measures on set when filming under COVID-19 restrictions,” the producers explained. “Parents have been invaluable in helping children memorize their lines and practice pronouncing them in a natural and engaging way.”
More to offer
The Creatures teach us the series goes beyond video, the producers said. It offers entertainment and educational activities adapted to families who support the Ministries of Family and Children. Episodes include a free downloadable family fun pack, parenting articles, and printable files.
Each family fun pack contains a family worship template, coloring pages, and a word search puzzle. Each week, parents can read articles that provide helpful advice on how to strengthen a specific character trait. In the case of “Savings”, for example, the articles are titled “Fun Ways to Teach Kids About Money” and “Pocket Money in a Few Simple Steps”. Parents can also access printable materials such as “Genius Experiments for Kids” and “Age Appropriate Tasks”.
Each episode lasts four to five minutes. The series launched on October 8, 2021, and new episodes are posted weekly on YouTube, Facebook, and Hope Channel Singapore.
