
Apple TV has ordered a Spanish-language series based on the movie “Midnight Family” (“Familia de Medianoche”).
Plot of the series
The series will be the first Apple TV to be produced entirely in Spanish. “Midnight Family” stars Marigaby Tamayo (Renata Vaca), an ambitious, day-skilled medical student who spends her evenings saving lives around Mexico City aboard her family’s private ambulance. Marigaby, along with her father Ramón (Joaqun Coso) and her brothers Marcus (Diego Calva) and Julito (Sergio Bautista), makes a profession of solving serious medical situations for a population of millions.
Cast of the series
Yalitza Aparicio, Itzan Escamilla, José Mara de Tavira, Oscar Jaenada, Dolores Heredia and Mariana Gómez all appear in “Midnight Family”. Apple has ordered ten episodes of the program. It is currently produced in Mexico City.
Gibrán Portela and Julio Rojas created the television sitcom, with Portela acting as writer. Natalia Beristáin is the showrunner, executive producer and director of the series. Beristáin previously directed two episodes of “The Mosquito Coast”, an Apple-Fremantle series. Fabula executive producers Pablo Larran and Juan de Dios Larran. Angela Poblete and Mariane Hartard are also executive producers, with Peter Blake serving as consultant. Apple, Fremantle and Fabula are the producers of “Midnight Family”.
Luke Lorentzen filmed the documentary ‘Midnight Family,’ which follows the Ochoa family, owners of a private ambulance in Mexico City who must compete with others to reach the scene of the accident in order to generate enough money to support to their needs. The film had its world premiere at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival.
