Christine Bersola reflected on her time as an anchor on ABS-CBN’s “TV Patrol” and how she was teased then by veteran anchor Mel Tiangco to Bersola’s husband, Julius Babao.
Bersola’s reminiscence came to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the on-air news program, as seen on Bersola’s Instagram page last Saturday, March 5. She also showed throwback photos and videos of behind-the-scenes moments from the show.
“It was really, the good [old] days. Imagine, working alongside broadcast icons: (Ninong Noli) [godfather Noli de Castro] (Ninong Noli), Ka Kiko (Sir Frankie Evangelista) and Ninang (godmother) Mel Tiangco. What a privilege indeed! she says.
The TV reporter then recounted how Tiangco was part of her love affair with Babao, which she described as one of the “highlights of her broadcasting career.” Bersola also showed an old mirror that she used in the program in 1996 and still has.
“And every time [Julius Babao] pinch for Kabayan or Ka Kiko, Tita Mel would always tease us, ‘Uy bagay kayo!’ and ayun na nga, nagkatuluyan kami ni Julius! (“You look good together!” and Julius and I got together!) Wow! said Bersola.
“Congratulations to [‘TV Patrol’] and how it has changed the broadcasting and news landscape in the Philippines,” she added.
Bersola was recently joined by Babao in the TV5 network, after the latter left ABS-CBN, his original network for 28 years. J.B.
