Gun is an FX production and distributed in the United States by Hulu. Disney+ has claimed the rights to its Australian release, via Star. Gunbased on Jones’ 2016 memoir, Lonely Boy: Tales of a Sex Pistolwill arrive on the service on Tuesday, May 31. Gun includes six episodes, all of which will drop at the same time.
The show stars Australian actor Toby Wallace as Jones and Anson Boon as British punk band frontman John Lydon (aka Johnny Rotten). The real John Lydon is not at all happy with the continuation of the program. Last April, he told the UK Sunday time that he was not asked to sign or participate in Guncreation.
“It’s a shame,” he said. “I’m Johnny, you know, and when you interfere with my business, you’re going to have the bitter end of my business as a result.” Lydon attempted to prevent the Sex Pistols songs from being included in the series, but after a court battle license rights have been granted.
In a statement, Boyle – known to have directed Trainspotting, The Beach, Steve Jobs, 127 Hours and Slumdog Millionaire – says the action in Gun represents “the moment when British society and culture changed forever”. Watch the extended trailer below.
