This spring Go Local Lee hits the small screen on KCVR-TV’s Channel 24 and is hosted by none other than chef Lee Burton, a local food enthusiast.
The program is slated to begin filming in late January and tap into San Bernardino Valley College’s (SBVC) Department of Film, Television and Media talent pool for film production.
Go Local Lee is a labor of love, aimed at encouraging viewers to support locally owned and operated restaurants and other food-related businesses.
“Having worked all the jobs in a restaurant, from waiter to general manager, dishwasher to executive chef, I truly understand how difficult it is to operate a restaurant. I want viewers to genuinely appreciate everything about is invested in running a restaurant,” Burton said. “It’s a show about people more than a show about food. I believe if you get to know the stories of restaurant owners, their struggles, you be more inclined to support them.

Burton, who has decades of professional cooking experience under his belt, says he was first inspired to become a professional chef after being taught to cook by a young chef who was hired by his family to cook meals. meals for their gatherings.
“I learned to cook when I was young with a chef who worked for my family. I noticed the pleasure he took in delighting people with his food. My parents threw many parties and I loved watching him create amazing dinners and beautiful spreads of wonderful themed foods. Although I’ve had many other careers, my job as a chef and teacher is what makes me most fulfilled,” Burton continued.
In terms of fulfillment, what makes this upcoming TV show even more exciting is its collaboration with starving talent from SBVC.
“I am thrilled to collaborate with SBVC students for my show. I want Go Local Lee to have a current and fresh perspective and I know that the students will help me achieve the look and feel that I envision. As a culinary instructor, I enjoy working with students, especially on projects that require a lot of creativity and collaboration. I believe experience, in any profession, is the best way to learn,” concluded Burton.
