A special effects makeup artist has completed work on a new television series called “Ezra”, which will be released this fall on OUTtv and its distributors.
Dessa Larocque, who also has nearly 100,000 followers on TikTok, is originally from Jasper and later moved to Toronto to pursue her career.
Larocque is self-taught and has been interested in special effects makeup since childhood.
When she lived in Jasper, her mother decorated their house with elaborate Halloween decorations.
“My mum was always doing makeup for me when I was a kid and then it went from there, and I was doing makeup when I was a teenager for a haunted house and then I just decided during the pandemic that I wanted to make a career out of it. “said Larocque.
She began to take her passion more seriously once the pandemic hit, as she had plenty of time to train, do the most expensive makeup, and post her work on social media.
“It got more serious, because I started getting more subscribers,” she said.
After moving to Toronto, she was discovered on TikTok and hired for “Ezra.”
Created by Luke Hutchie, who also plays the lead role, “Ezra” is a horror-comedy series about a gay vampire trying to enter the modern human world.
This is Larocque’s first major project.
She started with six months of pre-production and was then ready to do the main actors’ make-up and all the special effects, including prosthetics and fake injuries.
“It was sure it was fun. I had an amazing time. I was really lucky with the people who hired me. They were all, honestly, the best people I have ever met.
Larocque currently has a few photography gigs and is waiting for a few other projects to start.
“Luckily because of this show I’ve met some people, big names who work on bigger shows, and I just made a few calls for a movie coming out, and Luke actually has a bunch of projects that are coming out from next year,” she said.
“Because of my TikTok and moving to Toronto, I got lucky and got a few projects.”
