MANILA, Philippines – There is a new meteorologist in town.
Ariel Rojas was introduced as the new ABS-CBN News resident meteorologist on Monday, December 13 in a report by “TV Patrol” presenter Henry Omaga-Diaz, followed by his first-ever live weather report as Kapamilya.
Ariel was no stranger to serving Filipinos as a PAGASA weather specialist for four years before joining ABS-CBN. He received his BA in Food Technology from the University of the Philippines and pursued an MA in Meteorology at UP as an academic from PAGASA (Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration).
In an article on news.abs-cbn.com, Ariel explained how he understood early on the importance of timely weather reports while growing up in the typhoon-prone Catanduanes.
“The next day, the two months when you don’t have electricity and you have to rely on relief, you have to save on food because there are no supplies in the stores. I can relate to this struggle because I experienced it at a very young age, ”he said.
Journalists, staff and the ABS-CBN News team extended messages of support to the new meteorologist on his first day on “TV Patrol.” These include those of “TV Patrol” presenters Karen Davila and Bernadette Sembrano, both of whom posted their welcome messages to Ariel on social media with a photo of the “TV Patrol” family.
“Ging Reyes, Head of News at ABS-CBN, personally greeted Ariel on her first day on the air! Enjoy Ariel TV which is the first on TV! So happy with your big break, Ariel, ”Karen said.
According to Ging Reyes, director of ABS-CBN News, Ariel’s role as resident meteorologist is important. “Quickly providing accurate weather information is critical to saving lives, especially during a typhoon. Our Kapamilyas will certainly benefit from Ariel’s expertise in this area as he continues to serve the Filipinos here at ABS-CBN, ”Reyes said.
Meanwhile, Bernadette has expressed her support for Ariel on Instagram.
She said: “A warm welcome to our new meteorologist, meteorologist @arielrojasph. Follow his page and see how passionate he is about the weather. Full support for kami sa kaniya. Proud of our lean and wicked family!”
Ariel also thanked ABS-CBN and the audience for the warm welcome they received on their Twitter account.
“Thank you all for your unwavering support and best wishes! Sorry, ‘di ko kayo maiisa-isa, but please know that I am deeply humbled and challenged to do well. Mom, I hope you’re smiling up there, “he tweeted.
