The share of UHD televisions in the German television market continues to grow.
In total, approximately 1.45 million televisions were sold in Germany in the first quarter of 2021. Of these, 1.1 million were UHD televisions, which corresponds to a UHD share of 75% (Q1 2020: 70% ), according to GfK figures released by the industry association. Deutsche TV-Platform.

Almost all (97%) UHD TVs sold in Q1 2021 support at least one High Dynamic Range (HDR) method. 77% (845,000) of HDR displays are capable of dynamic HDR processes such as Dolby Vision or HDR10+ in addition to static HDR standards HDR10 and HLG (Hybrid Log Gamma).
“In the first quarter of 2021, two milestones were reached at the same time: three out of four TVs purchased are UHD TVs, and the sound barrier of a total of 20 million UHD screens sold in Germany was broken,” said said Carine Chardon, Managing Director of Deutsche TV-Plattform and the ZVEI Consumer Electronics Association.
“As a result, more and more viewers can enjoy content in UHD HDR quality. For broadcasters and producers, this is a very good basis to continuously produce more series, films, sporting events and live shows in UHD,” added Chardon.
